Madrid, the capital of Spain since 1562, is located in the middle of the Iberian Peninsula. As it has a central location and high altitude, Madrid has lovely warm dry summers and cool winters.
Madrid is not just a cultural destination. It is also a lively city with many bars, cafes, discotheques and nightclubs open until late at night. When the sun goes down in Madrid, the city streets spill over with people, ready to celebrate and flood the dance floors until the early hours of the morning. Don't be shocked if you are stuck in traffic at four in the morning, and the people you meet are not necessarily going off to work!
What more need be said about one of the finest capital cities of Europe? With a population of approximately four million and an area of 375 square miles, it is no wonder that Madrid is a flourishing modern capital of culture, business and education. Madrid is a large, but friendly city that comprises all that is truly Spanish. City life includes something for every one: museums, theatre, bullfights, flamenco dancing, hiking, window-shopping and zarzuela, Madrid’s own comic opera. Madrid also benefits from an International airport, and main railway station bringing many tourists to the city every year, as well as a portal out of the city for the locals.
Madrid offers you superb opportunities to appreciate their artistic senses. The Museo del Prado, which compiles the most important collection of Spanish paintings in the world, boasts works of art mastery by Velázquez, Goya and El Greco. Also many highly revered contemporary works of art are housed in, The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. Madrid is a haven for lovers of architecture, painting and sculpture.
